Save more on your Lunar System by joining the SDCP's Solar Battery Savings Program

Lunar System is now officially approved for San Diego Community Power’s (SDCP) Solar Battery Savings program.
By participating in the program, you can earn up to $10K in upfront rebates just for installing your Lunar System alongside an existing or new solar system. Plus, you can earn up to $390 in ongoing payments simply by letting your battery support the grid when it needs it most. Read below to learn all the details.
What is San Diego Community Power’s Solar Battery Savings Program?
The Solar Battery Savings Program is an incentive program launched by San Diego Community Power (SDCP) to make home energy storage much more affordable for local homeowners.
By participating, you can earn an upfront rebate to help offset the initial cost of installing a solar and battery system at home, or expanding your current solar setup with a battery. Plus, you’ll earn ongoing incentive payments whenever your battery helps power the grid on weekdays from 4 to 9 p.m. — a peak period when electricity demand and prices are at their highest.
Program participants are asked to give at least 50% of their battery capacity during this daily window, supplying energy to both their home and the surrounding grid. The result? Greater savings in your pocket and a more reliable, sustainable grid for your community.

What benefits will I receive by enrolling?
You will receive several benefits through enrolling in the program:
- Financial incentives: Ongoing participation payments and lower upfront costs through an installation rebate if you are installing a new battery.
- Stronger and cleaner local grid: Help meet local demand and contribute to a community-wide effort to reduce reliance on natural gas power plants.
Beyond the program itself, owning a battery system offers additional advantages:
- Ongoing bill savings: Cut your electricity bill by tapping into your stored solar energy rather than relying on costly grid power.
- Home energy resilience: Be protected from power outages with the backup power stored in your battery.
What incentives are available, and how much can I earn?
Incentive amounts vary by Lunar System size and customer type. See the table below for the full breakdown.

Am I eligible for the program?
To be eligible for this program, you must:
- Be a San Diego Community Power residential customer.
- Install the battery at a single-family home with the same address where you receive service.
- Fully charge the battery at your home with solar panels (it cannot charge from the grid).
- Not be enrolled in other energy programs like the Emergency Load Relief Program (ELRP) or Demand Side Grid Support (DSGS).
Can I participate in this program if I do not have a solar system?
No. Currently, the program requires batteries to be fully charged by solar.
How much of my battery is enrolled in the program?
Your battery is required to give 50% of its usable capacity between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays. The battery first powers your home, and any remaining energy will automatically be exported to the grid. The performance incentive applies to all energy discharged during this window, whether it’s powering your home or exported to the grid.2
Outside the weekday dispatch window, your battery will operate according to the settings you and your installer have selected. Please note that Lunar recommends maintaining a backup reserve of 25%.
