Lunar Energy unlocks value for partners in Japan

Japan's energy market is changing fast. Lunar is already inside it.
At the start of 2026, two things happened that matter: we launched direct control of Daikin EcoCute hot water tanks across Japan, and we rolled out the next generation of the Gridshare Japan App. Both build on eight years of real partnership.
Since 2018, Gridshare has operated as Japan's largest Edge DERMS platform — running AI-powered optimization across ITOCHU's fleet of 40,000 Smart Star residential batteries. To date, we’ve managed 850 million hours of device control and generated 14 percent more savings for customers versus default battery modes.
As Japan's balancing market opens to residential assets, the question becomes how much flexible load you can orchestrate.
EcoCute hot water tanks are in more than 10 million Japanese homes. They've been static appliances until now.
Direct control means Gridshare can shift water heating to peak solar hours — absorbing excess generation, reducing curtailment, and lowering costs for the homeowner. The same AI that reads tariff data and weather forecasts for battery decisions now applies to a completely different device category.
For utilities, it unlocks a category of flexible load that didn't exist before. For customers, the bill gets smaller.
As the home energy ecosystem gets more complex, the interface needs to get simpler. The new Gridshare Japan App puts everything in one place — solar generation, battery telemetry, grid imports, and EcoCute usage — and calculates combined savings across all of it. Weather Alert Mode charges the battery to full when severe weather is forecast. Customers know what their system is doing. And why.

Gridshare connects with third-party devices and scales controlled fleets. Lunar brings the technology. Our partners bring the market reach. Together, we're building something the grid actually needs.
If you're thinking about what that looks like for your business, let's talk.
