Design your Lunar System
Save money, make money, avoid grid outages, and power your life with clean energy day and night.

Before going solar, Jennifer’s utility bills averaged between $300 and $600 a month, mostly from running her air conditioning during San Jose’s long, hot summers.
“I tend to run hot,” she laughs. “But I used to avoid running my AC at night. It was just too expensive.”
This summer, that changed.
“For two and a half months, I ran the AC every single night. I’ve never seen a $1,000 utility bill, but with that kind of use, I’m sure I would have. This year, with all my AC use, it was only $65 per month and that was mostly gas. The Sun paid for my comfort.”
Jennifer first heard about Lunar AI Mode from her installer. She admits she was hesitant, neighbors warned that new AI features might “mess with the true-up.”
“But I figured, why not try it? I’m so glad I did,” she says.
With NEM 3.0, California’s new rate structure, the value of electricity changes every hour. Lunar AI automatically manages these shifts, studying the day’s weather, your rate plan, and your energy habits to decide when to store, use, or export power.
“I didn’t have to think about it,” Jennifer says. “Lunar AI filled my battery before the expensive hours hit and even sent energy back when credits were highest. It saved me $335 this summer compared to if I was just in another battery’s standard ‘solar self consumption’ mode. I’d call that a win.”
Jennifer’s system also participated in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), a program that pays homeowners for sharing stored power with the grid during peak demand.
“So far, I’ve earned almost $300 from VPP events this year,” she says. “Those earnings contribute to our medical insurance. Even those small spot payments make a difference.”
Jennifer had explored solar since 2020, collecting four quotes, but none felt right until she learned her neighbor, Anu, worked at Lunar Energy.
“That connection gave me confidence,” she explains. “And when I met the Lunar team, it didn’t feel like a sales pitch, it felt like joining a family. Everyone was genuinely excited about the technology and mission.”
She also appreciated Lunar’s roots.
“I liked that it was started by engineers who came from Tesla but wanted to do it better,” she says. “It felt like the right mix of innovation and integrity.”
Her installer partner sealed the deal.
“They were amazing, so customer-centric and always available,” Jennifer says. “Everyone I worked with made me feel confident. When I had a small app issue, Lunar’s support team fixed it in a day. I actually felt seen, and you don’t get that with big companies.”
“I love this question because it’s where the magic happens,” Jennifer says. “Lunar AI builds a new plan for my home every single day. It looks at my utility rates, the weather forecast, and how my family actually uses energy.”
Here’s what that means in action:
• On hot evenings, Lunar keeps her battery full so she avoids buying expensive grid power when running her AC.
• On sunny afternoons, it exports extra power when utility credits are most valuable.
• And when there’s a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) event, it prepares automatically so her battery is charged and ready to earn her money.
“It’s like having a little energy expert in the background, constantly working to get me the best value,” she adds.
“Yes! That’s the best part and we’ve been protected from many outages.” Jennifer says. “When you pair solar with a battery, your home can run independently. My Lunar System powers our entire house during outages, and since it recharges daily from the Sun, we’re not just prepared for one night, we’re covered for as long as the Sun shines.”
Jennifer’s results speak for themselves.
“I used to pay around $600 a month for electricity. Now it’s about $65, and I even earned money, about $300 through VPP payments in just six months.”
Savings vary based on system size, local rates, and usage, but as Jennifer puts it:
“The AI makes sure you’re getting every ounce of value from your system. It’s smarter than any human could ever plan daily.”
“Hardware is important,” Jennifer says, “but the software is what gives me full confidence.”
She recommends choosing a system with AI optimization that adapts daily to your rates and weather. “You don’t need to be a techie or into all the specs,” she explains. “I’m not. I just wanted something that works, and Lunar does. It learns, plans, and runs quietly in the background so I don’t have to think about it. It’s truly set it and forget it.”
Jennifer smiles at this one. “People ask me this all the time,” she says. “My answer? You’re already making it back. Every month you’re not paying PG&E, you’re saving. And when you sell your house, it’s worth even more. So really, you start winning from day one.”
