Design your Lunar System
Save money, make money, avoid grid outages, and power your life with clean energy day and night.
“It’s not a clunky white box. It’s not a noisy generator. It’s just smart power that works,” said Kris.
In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Kris and his wife traded their bungalow for a home with more room, something they desperately needed when remote work and Zoom school collided.
“We were two adults working from home, with two kindergartners trying to do Zoom school from iPads in a small bungalow,” Kris says. “Somebody was going to lose it.”
Their new home came with double the square footage, a backyard, a pool, and a view of the mountains. “It felt like such a relief for all of us,” Kris says. “But with more house came more energy. I hadn’t really thought about what it would cost—or what it would take—to power our life.”
What followed was a journey not just in homeownership but in energy independence.
Kris’s fascination with solar energy started young. “My dad was always tinkering,” he says. “He installed solar panels to heat our backyard pool. I remember him explaining how it worked and thinking, wait, you can just use the sun for free? What else in life is free?”
That early exposure to solar stuck with him. So when it came time to replace the aging roof on their new home, Kris didn’t just want something durable, he wanted something better for the environment. He chose a metal roof, not only for its long lifespan, but because it was a more sustainable alternative to oil-based composite shingles.
“We knew we expanded our footprint, so we wanted to be thoughtful about how we managed it,” he says. “If we were going to invest in the home, we wanted it to support our goal of living more sustainably.”
That decision led him down the path to solar and battery storage. “It wasn’t just about saving on bills,” Kris says. “We’re on the trails, in the ocean, in nature all the time. I wanted to do my part to protect the places we love, and reduce the footprint of our growing family.”
But clean energy had to be simple. “I work full-time. My wife does too. We have twins and about a hundred things going on every day. I didn’t want to become a full-time home energy manager. I just needed something that worked.”
Kris wasn’t interested in a big white box bolted to the wall “Most batteries out there feel like an afterthought, big white boxes you try not to notice. I looked at Powerwall and Franklin, but I wanted something that actually looked good and felt like it belonged on our home.”
“When I saw the Lunar System, it just clicked. It was this deep blue, textured unit with a subtle wave pattern; it’s beautiful, like a design piece. It felt like it belonged in our home. It’s something you’re proud to show off, not hide away.”
But beauty wasn’t the only factor.
“I didn’t want to have to understand battery chemistry or measure every kilowatt-hour. I just wanted something that captured solar, stored it, and powered our home automatically.”
And that’s exactly what Lunar delivered.
Today, Kris’s home powers itself. His family charges their electric vehicle, runs a pool pump, uses air conditioning, and still pays far less to PG&E than they did before.
“I don’t even know when there’s a power outage,” Kris says. “The Lunar System keeps everything running. No noise, no blinking lights. Just seamless backup.”
And it’s not just about outages. Kris runs Lunar AI mode, which automatically shifts energy usage based on weather, time-of-use pricing, and solar forecasts. “I don’t have to think about when to use energy or when to save it. Lunar does the thinking for me.”
In the last five years, Kris’s energy rates have increased by over 50%. “What else in our lives has gone up that much?” he asks. “Not groceries. Not gas. Just our electric bills. That was the tipping point for me.”
By investing in solar and storage, Kris took control. “It wasn’t free. But it was one of the smartest investments I’ve made. It’s already saving us money, and it’s protecting us from what’s coming next.”
“I didn’t buy Lunar to become an energy nerd,” Kris says. “I bought it because I wanted clean energy that fits into my life without making me think about it. I don’t need to know the rate schedules or optimize settings. I just know it works.”
And it’s not just the product, it’s the experience. “The install team was amazing. It felt like VIP service from the first call to the day it flipped on.”
Kris grew up watching The Jetsons. He jokes that he never thought he’d live in a home that could power itself. “But here we are. My house charges my car. Keeps my lights on when the grid goes down. Powers my kids’ dance parties. And it’s all from the sun. That’s pretty wild.”
As his family grows and his energy needs evolve, Kris knows his system will keep up. “We want to electrify our furnace next. Lunar makes that future feel doable.”
For Kris, clean energy isn’t about becoming a different kind of homeowner. It’s about becoming a better one, one that’s prepared and in control.
