Demand Side Grid Support Program (DSGS)

What is the Demand Side Grid Support Program (DSGS)?
DSGS is a program from the California Energy Commission (CEC). This program pays you to support the grid at times of high demand from May through October.
How much could I earn from participating in the 2026 DSGS Program with a Lunar System?
You could earn up to approximately $260 if you have a 20kWh Lunar System. This figure assumes participation for the full contract period. Your actual payment will be based on performance. See the lower section for more details.
Am I eligible for the program?
To be eligible for this program, you must:
- Be in PG&E, SCE, or SDG&E service territory
- Not receiving any other incentives or VPP revenues for your Lunar System
- Own your battery system
You can find additional information here: here.
When will DSGS events happen?
DSGS events are triggered when demand for electricity on the grid is particularly high — specifically, when the wholesale market price goes above a set limit.
What should I expect my Lunar System to do before and during a DSGS event?
Your battery will charge up prior to the event (to maximize your output and payment), then discharge down to your backup reserve during the event. Following the event, your battery will return to its normal operation.
How many times will my Lunar System be used for the DSGS Program?
There will be a maximum of 60 DSGS event dispatch hours in 2026 between May and October. These will be between 1-2 hours long, and will occur between 4-9 pm. We may need to run some system tests before and during the season to check that things are working as expected.
Will my utility bill increase if I participate in the Lunar DSGS Program?
Your bill may increase by a small amount, but we anticipate any increase to be easily offset by your payments for DSGS participation. Our proprietary Lunar AI battery control software aims to minimize any utility bill increases while participating in DSGS.
How do I sign up?
For Lunar System owners, signing up is easy directly in the Lunar App. The app will walk you through the information you need to provide.
How is my payment calculated?
In exchange for your participation in the Lunar DSGS program, you will receive payments based on the incremental power (in kilowatts) provided during events, multiplied by the incentive given in the table below, and weighted by the wholesale cost of energy during the event. Incremental power is the increase in power output relative to your normal battery operation on non-event days.

Can I opt out of an event if I don't want my battery to participate?
Yes, you can opt out of an event up to 3 hours before it starts. Opting out will reduce the amount of revenue you earn.
Can I unenroll?
Yes, you can unenroll if you want to, but you won’t accrue any more VPP revenue from that point onward, and you can’t sign up again until 2027.
