Lunar's third VPP program in Japan. This time with Chubu Electric Power Miraiz

Japan's energy transition keeps moving. So do we.
Lunar Energy is supporting Chubu Electric Power Miraiz, the country's third-largest electricity retailer, with the launch of its new NACHARGE program, a residential demand response service aimed at optimizing electricity consumption across households to better align with renewable energy generation and grid conditions. This marks our third virtual power plant program (VPP) in Japan, and we're just getting started.
Maintaining a balance between electricity supply and demand is one of the biggest operational challenges utilities face. For Chubu Electric Power Miraiz, finding a smarter way to handle the weather-dependent fluctuations of renewable energy is key to achieving its decarbonization goals. Their NACHARGE Link Battery service automatically adjusts how home batteries charge and discharge in response to grid conditions — so customers support the grid when it needs it most without having to change their lifestyle at home.
Lunar’s Gridshare Platform has been optimizing home batteries across Japan since 2018. Our AI reads each household's solar generation patterns, energy usage, and tariff data — and charges and discharges the battery at exactly the right moment to maximize savings. Until now, these two things have run separately. Starting today, they run together.
Customers with Lunar-optimized batteries, starting with Smart Star and Omron systems, can now also enroll in the NACHARGE program. Managing an asset for both household savings and utility demand response is exactly the kind of complexity Gridshare is built to handle.
Behind the scenes, Gridshare keeps optimizing the battery to lower the customer's electricity bill, while coordinating with the utility to support grid balancing. To the customer, it's all one thing: a single asset that earns them maximum bill savings and extra financial rewards, with zero added effort on their part.
Chubu Electric Power Miraiz serves millions of customers across Japan's Chubu region. Adding Gridshare's AI optimization to their demand response fleet means smarter dispatches, more flexible loads, and a better outcome for the grid every time renewable generation spikes — while generating new revenue streams for both the utility and its customers.
In Japan, this is what the clean energy transition looks like at scale: utilities with reach, Lunar's proven technology, and partnerships built to grow.
If you're thinking about what a partnership like this could look like for your business, let's talk.
